The San Luis Obispo (SLO) Blues Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing the Central Coast with high quality live Blues music performances at reasonable prices.
Our all-volunteer organization was founded in 1980 and is the third oldest Blues Society in the United States. The San Luis Obispo Blues Society typically produces seven shows per year at the SLO Vets Hall (801 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo).
We call our shows dance-concerts, and that’s truly what they are, with a definite emphasis on dance. We have concert style seating, and table seating near the bar, but the predominant space front and center stage is a large, open dance floor. The SLO Vets Hall has “The Best Dance Floor In The County” and we encourage people to get up, move with the music, and dance! It’s not unusual to see half our audience out on the dance floor at any given time. It is this interaction that makes these events more enjoyable for the audience and performer alike. For our typical show, 80% to 90% of the audience is age 40 and above.
Our shows are on Saturdays. The music starts at 8pm with an hour-long set from one of our local bands, followed by the headliner, a nationally touring band, performing. We also provide free dance lessons at 7:30pm prior to each show. Beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee, popcorn and snack items are available at our shows. Due to alcohol sales, no one under age 21 is allowed.
Admission cost is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. Tickets will be sold at the door, and may also be purchased at Boo Boo Records and Cheap Thrills in San Luis Obispo. No reserved or special seating. Blues Society Annual Membership can also be purchased at the door for $10 and the discounted price is effective immediately.
The Goals of the San Luis Obispo (SLO) Blues Society are:
Provide a venue for nationally touring Blues performers who might not otherwise visit San Luis Obispo County.
Assist in the promotion of local Blues music performers.
Create an interactive atmosphere with the opportunity and encouragement for the audience to get close to the performers and to participate through dance.
Provide information about Blues performers, Blues music, and local Blues events.
